Knowing Jesus is much different than knowing about
Jesus. “Knowing” means that you have a
relationship with Jesus. Knowing about is nothing
more than information. Information about Jesus is
not enough. You must know Him. The following is a
brief description on what it takes to know Jesus
as your personal Savior. It all starts with an
important question.
“What must I do to be saved?”
This question was asked by the Jailer at
Philippi in Acts chapter 16. Many have asked this
same question through the years. If you are
desiring to trust Jesus Christ as your personal
Savior, this is what you need to know.
1. Man is a sinner and separated from God.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory
of God.”
Romans 3:23
This verse in God’s Word tells us that everyone
has sinned against God. We have deliberately
chosen to do wrong. That is why we are sinners. No
one will ever go to heaven just because they were
good.
“For the wages (the payment owed) of sin is
death…”
Romans 6:23a
The payment or penalty for our sin is death. This
is not a physical death, it is a spiritual death
which is eternal separation from God.
“And death and hell were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death. And
whosoever was not found written in the book of
life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 20:14-15
2. Jesus Christ is God’s
only provision for man’s sin.
“… but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23b
Jesus is the only answer for man’s sin. Jesus said
in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.”
There is no other way of salvation. We must accept
Jesus Christ as our Savior. He died on the cross
to pay, in full, your debt for sin so you wouldn’t
have to. Those who truly trust Him receive the
gift of eternal life.
3. You must personally receive Him as your Savior
by Faith.
“For whoever shall call upon the name of
the Lord shall be saved..”
Romans 10:13
“For by grace are you saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of
God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
Receiving Jesus Christ as your Savior involves
turning from sin to God (repentance) and trusting
Jesus to save you. You cannot be good enough to
earn salvation. It is a Gift, freely given by God
to those who trust Christ. Won’t you trust Him
today?
Dear God in heaven. I know that I am a sinner and
that I deserve to go to hell. I know that You love
me and that Jesus died on the cross for my sins.
Jesus, I now turn from my sin and trust you as my
Savior. Thank you for loving me; thank you for
dying for me; thank you for saving me. I pray in
your name, Amen.
